There's a grub screw on the shaft just below the crossheads. 1.5 or 2mm allen key required. you might have to knock the crosshead off as it may be tight then the shroud below unscrews to reveal the cartridge. Oh, and put the plug in the sink before you start or I can guarantee you'll drop the grub screw down the plug hole! (Been there!)
 
Hi leelister6, I have looked for a grub screw but there isn't one - it appears the crosshead & shaft are part of the section below them, very strange. Thanks.
 
It might just be interference fitted onto a (usually) plastic start shaped head which is then screwed onto the spindle of the valve. Have you tried rocking the handle left & right whilst pulling like billy-o on the handle?

You may just find that it's really tight esp if there's a build up of debris. Once that's off then it looks like you just have to remove the shroud and access the valve, where the real fun begins!!
