Morning all. What size diamond holesaw do you use for drilling the hole in a quartz countertop for a basin waste to go through? I have a house where they installed all the basins wastes with the nut and washer tightened onto the bottom of the worktop and not the bottom of the basin. Hope that makes sense.

Also, recommend a good holesaw make.

Cheers

I’m guessing your having a problem with the length of the threads ?

Can’t you get a tap with the threaded rods and just cut your own ?

I need to take the lot out and cut the holes so that the hole waste and flange nut fit into the countertop? Rather than fix the threaded waste through the countertop and tighten the back nut onto the bottom of the countertop. Hope that makes sense.

Basically, what size is the back nut to a 11/4 waste? Should just get out of my van and measure it. Around 56mm. So to have clearance I would need to drill a hole around 73mm?

Yes but tbh I would get a worktop specialist in to cut the holes as if it cracks your fecked

You can drill it ok with a diamond hole saw.

Go slowly and don’t use much pressure.

Lubricate and cool with water. ( if it heats up Quartz can crack)

Go really slowly at the end and with almost no pressure to avoid breakout.

Probably need removing and re-fitting with silicone between flange and basin - that’s all…

A few minutes each , not what you are proposing, and also no risk of damage.

Depends on the basin but I normally do 100mm hole saw for countertop basin wastes as its just a stock holesaw I have. It's all covered anyway so who cares

Is it quartz or resin effect? Resin effect can be drilled with normal holesaws, Quartz I would be taking to a stone company
