Discuss Heatmiser Neostat v2 not firing up boiler in the Central Heating Forum area at PlumbersForums.net

Hello,

I replaced a Heatmiser Neostat V1 (stopped working) with a Neostat V2 for my Vaillant ecoTec plus 637 boiler, using it as a timer to turn the central heating on. It was a direct replacement of the ‘front’ unit without any change to the existing back plate or wiring (I am neither a plumber or electrician).

The issue is the timer works fine as the timer turns on and off as programmed, however the timer when on does not turn on/engage the boiler for heating.

What I find is if I physically touch or go near the unit ie activate the proximity sensor (ie turning on the backlight)on the Neostat V2 the boiler then fires up for heating. At first I thought this could just be coincidence but have concluded it is not as touching / going near the V2 fired up the boiler every time. The hold/timer override function also works fine, with the boiler firing up as expected.

Is there any way to turn off the proximity sensor permanently? The Heatmiser FAQ suggests it is not possible to turn on the backlight permanently so maybe there is no way to turn it off as well, in which case thanks in advance for any advice to solve this issue. The simplest would be to simply replace the V1 with another but this does not seem to be on the market anymore.
