Hello Guys n Gals,

new to the forum, just after info about electric rails which arent oil filled, I have been told by the merchants that you can fill them with a water/inhibitor mix and then just use the element?

anyone else done this? :6:

many thanks in advance

alex

Yeah, loads of times.

You need to size the element correctly and leave it open to vent air when you first heat it up. You will have allready left a small part of the rail unfilled for expansion.

The instructions with the elements all detail this. I've done it more times than I can remember.

Thanks for the speedy reply mate, ive done rails many times too, just never one like that, lol.

i kinda thought you would obviously need to leave room for expansion, the oil filled ones are mega expensive, the element and rail combo looks just perfect now. cheers :)

When I say I've done it many times, I mean converted them to electric!! LOL.

Often the factory converted ones are just filled with distilled water and inhibitor (had a contact at The Radiator Company) who charged me £300 extra to convert a radiator.

Since then I've always done my own and not had any issues. Cheers,

Danny

£300 to convert it?? bloody hell its a tenner for inhibitor lol

what merchants do you use down tunbridge? I am from edinburgh.

Drakes on Longfield Road in Tunbridge Wells. Small/medium sized firm. For parts I use PTS in Tonbridge.

Edinburgh is a lovely place. Got a mate who moved up there. Married a local lass.

Yeah £300, was a posh rad, cost nearly a grand. Crazy. I could have saved them a good few quid, but there you go. you live and learn.
