I have an annoying fault which has crept in recently. My boiler started to trip out on overheat, despite the boiler thermostat being set at 50% full scale. BG have visited 5 times and have
1. Replaced motor on the pump as it had overheated. See second visit....
2. Opened the pump spill back valve a little. This was causing the pump to overheat.
3. Changed the boiler thermostat (not the overheat thermostat)
4. Changed the PCB

The trips are less frequent now but for 4 weeks the boiler has been cycling on and off on a 45 second cycle, so the water never gets hot enough. Not good for the boiler either.

I asked BG to visit once again and their specialist arrived.

5. He crawled into the roof space to check the 22mm hot and cold manifolds that run around the house with a magnet. (Note we have 15mm drop pipes to feed the radiators in each room). They advised that they had found a partially blocked 22mm pipe, I don't know where or if hot or cold) which they offered to cut out and replace. They also recommended a system power flush.

Well, I took the power flush option first as costs are high with BG. Needless to say there has been no improvement in cycle time so I am lost as to the next step.

Any suggestions please??

Agree to the powerflush only on the agreement that if the system does not work perfectly immediately you want a full refund, see if they still want to do a powerflush :)

Does the boiler make any loud noises when its running? Sound like a kettle? If so, then the boiler is getting too hot as it can't clear the heat away quick enough. And if a new pump has been fitted, by-pass is cracked open, then I'd go with a restriction in the pipework/boiler. And it a magnet is sticking to the copper pipe it does mean that there's a build up of iron oxide in the pipe (as copper isn't magnetic).

Thanks for your reply. The boiler doesn't make any noises, no kettling. It was just the motor head that was changed. The pump end is clean inside. I saw inside when the flushing was performed.
Power flushing hasn't helped. Do you think I should get BG back to cut out and replace the "partially blocked pipe in the loft"? more big bucks!

The answere to everything with BG is a powerflush, thats all they know.
