Had a call yesterday from one of my customers could I please come round and fit her new dishwasher, nothing strange there! Turn up 5 mins job done, customer then says to me over a cup of tea, "that was quick" replied " easy fix, turn off washing machine valve, undo hose etc". Customer " well I paid extra for the delivery chap to remove old, fit new and take old away, but he said that he could turn off the water off lossen the hose" replay " well valve was a bit stiff had to give it a wiggle with my grips, and used grips to lossen hose" customer " chap said they are not allowed to use tools to remove" so she has paid for the job twice and got to get rid of the old appliance!! she was off to complain and get her money back!

I have do quite a few of these jobs of late, mostly single women, or elderly.

I was wondering how many of you out there are finding this! and how many people do go back and get there money back! Is this a new scam by the big electrical shops!

any thoughts!!

Had a couple like that, my mates mums was like that paid for connection aw sorry love cant do that rings me to do it sorted in 5 mins. Might not be covered for certain things maybe?

I've just put one in. When I was phoned I said the delivery people could do it. "But I want you to do it."

Went along day after delivery. They'd made the wiring semi safe by fitting a fuse switch. Excellent stuff. I wondered if they'd pinched the old socket. Anyway, by 4 hours later I'd contacted my sparky, bought socket off him and returned to fit it. Customer paid cash and happy all round.

Still unsure as to why I was asked.

as said delivery driver and mate carry no tools so if anything is tight missing or leaking they dont do it

Yeah, ive had this before. If they cant fit the appliance with the minimal of hassle then they wont.

If the plug lead's not long enough for one of them to squeeze in behind the machine, they'll give up.

Still, more work for us Washing Machine Direct Installation Solutions Specialists.

This has been happening for years. I have come across a few, that the hose was "tightened" to the w.machine valve & unknown to the customer, was leaking badly. They don't even know it needs very tight! Also they have said they don't drill holes or join electrics!

What's the point in offering a service they can't do. Imagine the shame of it. I've seen plenty of women getting their tool box out to do small job's like that, I often feet guilty taking money for jobs like that

i sub to the largest retailer mainly for the cooker side, but when things are quiet i will do the w/m and the like.
the store charges around £80 for this and we get about half.
the drivers are diy clueless and as which they are not allowed to carry sharp instruments.lol
i went to derby last week to fix a washing machine leak from one of their installations.
turned out that the polish guy had only ripped of the sink plug hole to trap bolt causing the w/m to chuck its load into the cupboard.lol.
