advice needed - new boiler installation

I recently had a kitchen extension done meaning I needed to re-site the boiler from its original position. The old boiler was around 18yrs old so decided to go for a new one.

I wanted to keep all the tanks so got a plumber out went through want I wanted and agreed on a price for fitting a new boiler and re piping as need to fit into the old system.

My expectation was that he would fit a system boiler, however he has fitted a bosch greenstar 24 junior combi boiler which he seems to have run as a system boiler i.e it heats the hot water in the tank.

Is this usual to do this? The installation was last june no real problems with and it works fine just seems like an odd thing to do. Also not had any building regs certs for the work (he is gas safe registered) chased him a number of times but seems uninterested/unwilling to provide

any advice welcomed

No, no taps. just one pipe in and one out to hot water cylinder/heating there is a two way valve in the airing cupboard. Pressure reader is at 0

it is possible to use a combi like this but normally at least one tap comes off it

one pipe out and one pipe in ??? doesnt sound like a combi to me, a combi should have 6 pipes which are condensate, flow, hot, gas, cold, return(worcester junior order from left to right)

yes but safety pipe goes straight outside usually so i left that one out

I have come across this before. Generally there seem to more offers available on combis than on system boilers and I guess he found this the cheaper option.

I have seen it done when the kitchen tap is fed off the combi boiler and the bathrooms off the cylinder. If that hasnt been done, he has probably fitted it because the junior is cheaper than the 24i system boiler for some reason.

Thanks for the replies. There is indeed fitting for 6 pipes but only 2 in use.

I take it that there is no safety issue with using a combi this way. I believe he sub contracts for BGas so maybe he gets them cheap through that?

Is there anyway I can force him to sort the paperwork out or is it out of time now given it was done last june

look above boiler for pipes could be pipes going up behind boiler

Nothing wrong with this set up. I think you'll find he can register the boiler up to 12 months later. It's not hassle to do, a 2 minute call and a small charge to him. Keep chasing him for it!

i personally wouldnt worry about the pipes not sure if it affects warranty

no problems in this set up,
good thing is you can always change to combi in future.
only needs a tap for rating the burner but not required until needed.

i think its not registered because it was c/in/hand?.

Yes gas supply in 15mm the meter is just out the back of the wall the bolier is on so prob 2m max.

incorrect materials used should be no plastic within 1m of boiler, bet he doesnt subby to BG, at least not anymore

Looks shocking. Push fit fittings on show, the wiring is a disgrace.

Make sure you chase him up to register it.
