A contraction is a shortened version of the spoken and written forms of a word, syllable, or word group, created by omission of internal letters and sounds.
In linguistic analysis, contractions should not be confused with crasis, abbreviations and initialisms (including acronyms), with which they share some semantic and phonetic functions, though all three are connoted by the term "abbreviation" in loose parlance. Contraction is also distinguished from morphological clipping, where beginnings and endings are omitted.
The definition overlaps with the term portmanteau (a linguistic blend), but a distinction can be made between a portmanteau and a contraction by noting that contractions are formed from words that would otherwise appear together in sequence, such as do and not, whereas a portmanteau word is formed by combining two or more existing words that all relate to a singular concept that the portmanteau describes.
We have been in our house (2 story) for 2 months. Smelled gas when we moved in around gas fireplace and room.
Gas company detected gas and shut off gas. Plumber came out and couldn't find a leak after conducting pressure test. Gas company came back out turned gas back on. Started to smell...

You can not possibly know what the problem with my boiler is because you haven't asked one constructive question about it. Also, you have no idea of my experience, knowledge or qualifications, because you haven't asked.
I was after a second professional opinion to...

Hi, i'm a single mum and i am just having my kitchen re done, i wanted to move the boiler but when i called out plumbers for quotes they have said it is not worth moving it as boilers don't like being moved and for a little more cash it would be better to replace the boiler. (boiler at the...

I was called out to a stanley which had the heating side stopped working. The pump was stiff, the rubber coupling shredded and the motor windings burnt. I have replaced all 3 but when I try to run it, the motor struggles to turn everything. (works fine when not coupled to the pump). It's...
Hi guys, just venting a bit of frustration, been at it since October now and I don't feel very confident and it shows at work because i'm slow at what I do. It comes from the fact i'm still gaining experience and a lack of confidence in what I know.
Today I had to Tee in to the Hot water draw...
Not a scrap of snow about down here but not having a VW transporter saved me a lot of time today. Had a call out today but couldn't get there until last call and it was going to be a real pita to get there on the main roads as it would mean travelling a big curve through rush hour traffic. I...

Hi everyone, not actually a plumber but winter's coming and my boiler has just broken today, not great when you've got a toddler and it's minus temperatures outside. Basically the pilot light's gone off, I've reset it and checked the manual, the flame warning light is flashing once every two...
