Hello anyone recommend a good waterproof membrane? I have battened a wall and fixed plasterboard to it im wanting a decent but cheap membrane to put behind the plasterboard any ideas?

I ripped old tiles off n wall behind is wet thru, the custard changed his a joining coal house into a en-suite problem is he didn't put much thought into it, it's too wet to render then tile so I was thinking of adding battons then boarding it but of course the boards will blow so I need to protect it

Foil backed insulated plasterboard will do, but sounds like you need a word with your neighbour first!

If the wall is going to be always at risk of damp coming through (rising or rain water straight through the wall) then if you have a few inches spare you can afford to lose you could fit an insulated stud wall in front of the damp wall, leaving a gap of at least 30mm.

if the wall is as wet as you say, anything suggested above will fail idc. there are 2 forms of curing it depending on the severity, one is french drain and pump to remove water and the waterproof membraine (not a cheap version) for moisture to hit and run down and its bleedin expnsive to get right permanently. Or you could try 3 coats of bitumin paint, all applied in a different direction for each coat to ensure full coverage and seal, on the final coat blind the bitumin with sand to give it grip for a rendercoat. then apply a decent render coat, better two to give strength and prevent the bitumin paint blowing off. Then and only then can you build a stud wall away from the render without touching the render in anyway and carry on as normal. Anything else is a waste of time and money
