Hi

I need to conenct a few 110mm waste pipes - one of thsoe jobs where I wil ldo it ocne so don;t want to spend a fortune.

I ntoe that you should use a silicone lubricant to make the push fit joists go together properly.

I coudl use fiary liquid but I suspect I may have to continually make joists whilst I get the cuts right and I wodner whetehr fairy liquid will make a mess.

I went to a well known plumbign shop and they sell a can of lubricant for Ā£20.

However I also see Halfords do one for 3.99 and Wickes 6.99.

Is the Halfords one the same stuff?

Halfords | Halfords Silicone Lubricant 400ml

I spose 3.99 ain't bad particualrly if I can re-sue on other projects.

I believe WD-40 is also a silicone spray but I have read that it can harm rubber so it is not reocmmended for this use.

Thoughts?

Just be careful using silicone spray or silicone grease as it does not dry away and can mean joints are too easily pulled apart. This can be an advantage for any 4" pipes that are to be pulled apart sometime in the future, but got to make sure everything is clipped & supported well, where they could slip out.
Make sure the pipe you cut you taper the edge well & this makes all the difference to push it on to a fitting.

When making your 110mm joints as said shamfer the edge and either water/spit/silicone grease/spray lubricant or fairy liquid will make the pipe slip on the rubber

If you feel like your having to put allot of pressure to make the joints stop and add more grease otherwise you can pull/distort the rubber and it wont seal

or WD40, it rots o rings, so will probably do the same for rubber/neoprene. If your so worried about saving money, do it right once and spend a bit now to get the right tools or you'll only be doing it all again in the future............................
