Vibrating noise in walls

Hi guys

quick question. We have had this loud vibrating noise in our walls. This has been happening for the past two weeks but this week it has become extremely loud. It happens after the central heating has been turned on. The noise lasts for hours and randomly stops. If I flush the toilet the noise stops for a bit then starts up again. If I turn the cold tap on it stops it and as soon as the cold water tap is turned off the noise comes back. Our plumber came round and coincidentially the noise turned off before he walked through the door. Any ideas what it could be?

Sounds like either a ball valve or float valve needs changing

Could be on

Tanks in the loft (one heating or one cold water tank big)
Toilet float valve

Etc

Try touching exposed pipes whilst it is happening and feel for vibration, if you can trace which pipe or pipes this will help your plumber when he returns.

Ball valve? Is that in the tanks in the loft?

it will be as said already either one of the ball valves in the loft or toilet fill valve. when the rubber washer/diaphragm gets old it gets hard and reverberates when filling causing the noise/vibration.

In my place the toilet flush water and the bathroom cold taps are fed from the cold water tank in the loft so start there.

The flexi pipe thing going into the toilet is vibrating. I can feel it. Does that mean the problem is with the toilet?

More than likely but could still be the others

Probably the cistern inlet valve.

Just replace and see
