hi all I've got a chance to go to spain for work experience for 2 weeks, is there plumbing much different from ours e.g. is it copper or steel in the houses.

I worked abroad in the 90s in Greece. In between DJing I did a few favours for local and earned more dracs than I did behind the decks. The plumbing out there are weird sizes and silver solder is the preferred choice. Enjoy the sun and lazy days! It must be the same in Spain!

its copper soft soldered 15,18 and 22mm 1mm wall thickness so its a bugger to bend although they do use a lot of uponor q&e and multilayer you wont see much in the way of compression fittings over there

You will love their gas work !!!!!!!!!!!
Bottles in the cupboard next to the sink or under the sink for a hot water heater !
Propane in the house is very common
Their waste is fun too with traps normally in the floor
I think they use a lot of microbore and in plastic now it all seems to be buried in the walls too ?

an old mate of mines there, he says ex-pats pay uk prices and its all pushfit!!
southern spain.

That would not suprise me at all as when I was there they all get off the plane with their easylet certificates and are suddenly master builders ,estate agents or plumbers !
They all do gas work for the ex pats who are either too stupid to realise that there are some qualified Spanish guys about or they are too lazy to learn the lingo .
To be honest they normally get what they deserve !
When I was there I have never seen such appalling work being done and mainly by Brits to other Brits ,I was asked to drive an excavator but I only lasted the morning as when I had done the job I phoned the owner to say I had finished he went mad and said he wanted at least 2 days hire from the job so told me to just drive up and down a bit !
Left it running as the key just kind of snapped and told the owners what a cowboy he was although it backfired as he somehow wormed his way back in with them but I left with a clear conscience .

Every two weeks or so I have to go and top up the system because the hot taps are running cold. Boiler display is flashing 0.6 bar and I fill up to 1.3. I've had an engineer look inside the boiler and he can't see anything wrong. I've checked the pipes all over the house and cannot see any...

Hi, I've followed this excellent forum for several years but have never posted, so decided I'd better give some details. My status is the upper end of DIY and I've a couple of house renovations under my belt (my own homes) I am retired but do volunteer handyman jobs for the elderly. Not...

Hi, basic question, any insight much appreciated. Looking to have an outdoor tap in my front porch fed from 15mm pex coming up from suspended floor. Pic 1 is inside porch, pex temporarily clipped to give an idea of pipe placement (ignore shoddy blockwork of booted cowboy builder!), Pic 2 is...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...
