hows things new to this forum

was just wondering if any of the installers have thought about selling boiler cover to customers or if anybody does sell it ??

what are your views on this ??

Just wondering what you've been smokin for that Q to pop up. :)

Probably not much use to you
Theres a firm local to me who do it , but I dont know them as to how well it works .

its a great cashflow i think but with 17% of homes experiencing a breakdown per year i dont know how close the margins would be

Fact is these types of assurance businesses are popping up every day. Many are doing it. What is sold is a form of 'peace of mind' in that if you are signed up you have some form of guaranteed response when the stuff hits the fan - it's freezing outside and your boiler fails.

When plumbers are the simply the worst of every trade at responding to customers it provides a valuable opportunity for those prepared to put themselves out. No, I do not want to start a debate about whether YOU respond or not... Frankly, if you're on here you're statistically far more likely to give a **** ;)

The type of people who typically take out this form of protection are likely to read the papers - Mail & Express = older people. They take what they read in these fish & chip wrappers and get sucked in by it. This type of assurance is designed to re balance those feelings of dread.

All I would say is PLEASE do it properly!

thanks for th reply people

i was just wondering what yous thought the numbers would be ie how many call outs also i think using facetime could half all callouts as yous guys know many of the time the boiler isnt broken

for every thousand i reckon there would be 50-60 call per month?

Based on what?
There are other ways of working out your numbers. In fact they already exist publically. Do not reinvent the wheel.
That said, I ain't doing it for you cos its YOUR potential business ;)

That old chestnut again?:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Doesn't sound a specific enough subject for a PHD thesis, if I'm honest.
How would a plumber manage to actually provide the level of service required when they are on holiday, in a swimming pool, in the middle of a powerflushing operation, or on the worst day of the year when every single plumber is flat out? Sounds difficult for a very small firm to be able to handle...

1000 ppl sign up at 15.99 pm = 16000 turnover pm ?

could easily hire an engineer specifically for breakdowns ?

but best question how much of that 16000 would be left as profit ?

We used to sell one years ago.
It was OK. We still have one or two customers left on it and have turned over a fair amount of extra work through it via breakdowns etc.
I have thought about it from time to time but as we're always busy it stays on the back burner along with a pile of other stuff we might get round to one day.
Worth a go if you fancy it though, I can't think of many problems we had!!

As long as you do a proper system check before taking on contract.

We only bothered to sell them to customers who we were installing for. We did gain a few by default but they also ended up with new installations. It was very similar to BG's 3 star thing if you remember that? (it may still be going).

You wasn't on here before was you, trying to get an app going?

Hello all, I'm would like to extend an existing outside tap to another point in the garden. I'm about to pour a concrete patio and was hoping to run the water line underneath. There are existing drain (and who knows what) pipes running along the same wall so I'm nervous about digging too far...

I have an ideal vogue max S18 boiler and I’m considering fitting auto balancing TRVs, my question relates to the boilers pump. I see a boiler pump menu for either 70% or 100%, so, is the pump set at either one of two fixed speed percentages or does the pump actually vary speed, (modulate)...

We are from Alberta, and I own an electrical company. I have been asked by a BC Mechanical P. Eng. to install an emergency STOP button at the man-door to the boiler room. It's intent is to 'halt' the operation of the boilers in the room should there be an emergency. He is demanding that I do...

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks
