Any tips on what to use that won't damage the bath? Not a lot of paint but splashes everywhere due to a very poor decorator.

Emulsion paint - then just a damp cloth and elbow grease.
Oil based paint will be a disaster on a plastic bath, but on enamelled steel baths you could use anything nearly, as long as you immediately remove it off the bath surface.

Tried hot water and picking it off but not getting a smooth finish. Wondering if paint may have damaged the bath.

Stanley blade and plenty of patience. Then down to boots for a four in one nail buffer. It has 4 grades of emery paper, good for scratches, small dings and polishes right out.

White fibreglass bath and I think emulsion but was a while ago so its proper dried on.

When you say fibreglass, I presume you mean acrylic with fibreglass backing? Not a laminate?

Assuming this is so, then get the paint off as rough as you like, then use wet and dry to take any scratches out of the bath caused by the scraping off of the paint. Then either brasso or tcut rubbed on with cardboard (not rag) and finally polish up with a soft cloth.

Done steadily, you will not be able to tell it apart from a factory new bath.

get the mrs in the bath on her knees polishing, slap her backs.............. naw thats me dreaming again
