What's people's view on the need to cap redundant gas pipes. E.g. Next to gas meters.
I know in the regs it says that they should be capped with an appropriate fitting.

Is it really necessary?
Would filling it with fjc or similar suffice?
Would gas safe pull you up on it if it wasn't done?

Just thought I'd throw this out there as i was interested.

If its an old service pipe it has to be capped as a gas leak can track up the old pipe.

I've had this happen to me and they had to dig the pavement and the road to fix the leak

IMO they should be vented to outside air

I don't mean service pipes from the street, I mean old iron where they've put a new copper gas run in.

Regards

Dob of silicone in the end for me

As you have stated the regulations 6(3) require that " any person who disconnects a gas fitting shall, with the appropriate
fitting, seal off every outlet of every pipe to which it was connected."

So yes, it is necessary.

Where do you stand if you are not the one who disconnected it?

Last one working on it responsible of course. So even if you are working on other parts the installation then
it is your look out.
