Discuss Question about gas supply in the Gas Engineers Forum area at PlumbersForums.net

Im fitting a kitchen in my own house . When removing the gas oven on a bayonet fitting and turned the gas hob off and removed a four burner gas hob. Ive noticed that the oven supply 15mm and the hob supply is 15mm but once the cupboard is out i can see the hob supply is 10mm in the wall. Which im guessing currently is teed off from the oven supply about 80cm away. Now im guessing this was done as easier to run a section of 10mm supy in the wall through a couple of studs.
Questions is will this effect the new hob which is a five burner model or will it be fine as its a short section. Im in the uk but asking as i dont want to get a gas man out first unless im sure it needs changing as if it does i will open up the wall first and have it all ready for him rather than him coming out twice.

Thanks

You will need someone gas registered to connect up the hob when you get to that stage.
Whoever that person is going to be, just have a conversation with them now.

Yes ive just asked a few mates also in the trade for recommendations as the guy ive always used has recently retired and didnt want to bother him. Yeah as i was saying just wondering as to what state to remove plasterboard etc. Will try and find someone local today was just trying to be as prepared as i could.

This is the new hob had a look but only thing i can find is its fitted with 1/2 male fitting. Cant see a usage measurement anywhere.
As i say 10mm section is about 80cm long.

Experience tells me 10mm won't be enough but it depends on the kW and distance the pipe runs.

As a general rule it's 15mm up to a hob, but some modern gas ranges require 22mm.
