My elderly mother has been told her boiler needs a pressure release valve. She has been quoted £280 for a service and to replace the valve. Is this a fair price? It's a glow worm combi.

Apparently he told her its a big job because it either has to be an external one put in or he has to take the boiler down and take Alot of things out because it's at the very back of the boiler

You sure it's not the expansion vessel as well as relief valve, if so probably about right, as said above if just the relief valve a bit on the rich side.

Is it a Worcester boiler, because there is one where the boiler has to come off the wall to replace the PRV.

It's a glow worm combi. All that was said was pressure release valve. She bleak her radiators and ever since the pressure gauge has been too high then dropping below 1. He was pointing to a red square shaped box in the back of the boiler she says. He said he needs to get to that or put an external one in. It's glow worm combi. Problem started as soon as radiators where blead

She wont get any other quotes. She has used the same firm for years. They charged her £360 to chance the control panel a couple of years ago. Can anyone judge it off that price

It depends on what you are defining as the control panel. Aside from that £280 sounds a good price for changing an expansion vessel.
