Evening all I've got a boiler to install next week and want to install a magnaclean with it , but the boiler needs to be housed outside in the old coal shed which will be all insulated but will the cartridge part of the filter be ok as I wouldn't be able to insulate it properly or should I try and fit it in the already cramped hot press, any opinions??

Fit a frost stat and pipe stat in the coal shed beside the boiler and everything will be fine.

What's the chances of it freezing? If it's in a coal shed then is it possible to slap a removable insulated box around it?

Get a cut off of 3" lagging. Or some foil backed fibre glass. That should help.

Are you running the flow and returns inside? Could you locate it on the return in a heated area?

As said ,not hard to make a insulated jacket up for magna clean, new boiler may well have a built in frost stat or use pipe stat and block up all opening,so outhouse is sealed to get rid of draft chill factor

imho

Best place for magnaclean, in the bin, I have been to 2 this week already that are leaking. Get it flushed correctly and then fit a spirotech magnabooster 2, not the best for collecting sludge but will never leak.

Tf1's are fine.........so far. Fitted around 40 and no problems other than trying to work the bloody thing in.

I started fitting TF1,s but had a few problems with them leaking, so I moved onto magnaboosters.

I started using magnabooster's but found them not to be the best at removing sludge, good quality build but not much use in the job they are supposed to do. Not had any probs with the TF1, although had a couple of Magnaclean's leak before, but "apparently" this leak point was sorted in a new design.

i throw away the olives you get with the magnacleans and use other ones

Good point, never seem such flimsy olives. Thats the only place I've ever had a leak on Magnacleans.
As has been said the Spirotech is built like a tank but not very good at picking up dirt which rather defeats the object.

If the system is cleaned well, the magnabooster are great at maintaining it.
Most of the magnacleans only have a bit on the filter, the canister is way to big.

Tf1s are good, magna cleans are prone to leaking, but not any of the last dozen I've fitted have, spirotech, just don't do the job.
tf1s or magna cleans for me.

Ok lads that's great thanks once again for the help!

use a combined inhibitor/anti-freeze additive, sentinel, fernox blah all make do them and has allready been said, if the new boiler doesn t have a built in frost stat , fit one.
