Discuss Orange spots. Rust. Washing machine or power flush? in the UK Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice area at PlumbersForums.net

I get orange spots when washing clothes. Please see photo. I think it is rust.

I’ve checked there’s no metal in the machine. I have also run a long wash with lemon juice. Neither have solved it.

I read power flushing is the answer to rust elsewhere in the system.

How can I tell if it’s the washing machine or if I need to to power flush?

Thanks

your washing manchine does not use water from your ch. its mains supply same water that goes to your taps.

power flushing is for central heating systems.

Likely you have something ferrous in the washing machine somewhere. I would suggest taking the washing machine outside. placing it on a trestle or something and opening the drain hole at the bottom. Try rinsing this out with a hose pipe and dislodge what ever is loose in your machine.

Failing that its probably a new machine

Thanks very much for the reply.

As above, something metal, e.g. a keyring or washer, etc. that's lodged somewhere would be top of my list. Otherwise, have you used anything other than purpose made detergent in the machine?

Lemon juice is acidic, which will cause corrosion. Bleach will cause corrosion, so will salt, etc. Is your water supply from a well? Check the manufacturer's website for advice and do some Googling. Occasionally this type of stain can be due to a manufacturing defect. ISTR that Samsung had to recall some models for this problem relatively recently, for example.

Hello all, I’m replacing a concrete paving slab patio in the back yard. The original patio used 50mm deep concrete slabs on hardcore & sand. I’m planning to pour a 100mm deep concrete patio on 100mm hardcore. In order to achieve the same final height to line up with the rest of the patio, I...

Every two weeks or so I have to go and top up the system because the hot taps are running cold. Boiler display is flashing 0.6 bar and I fill up to 1.3. I've had an engineer look inside the boiler and he can't see anything wrong. I've checked the pipes all over the house and cannot see any...

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...
