Yes nip it up by while also holding the valve with a spanner or pliers. If it still leaks there should be a washer sitting in that nut, check it's integrity.

I suspect the washer has been damaged

If you have tightened it enough and it's still leaking, then try to put plumbers' tape.

Don’t tape it, won’t help. The seal is made by the rubber washer. Adding tape to the threads only makes it harder to tighten.

I agree, looks like you’re tightening on to what I suspect is a compression Male iron. Ideally the flat face of the iron should be the seat for this flexi washer. But; I suspect previously a compression nut and olive attached to this valve instead of a flexi.

This means that the face you’re tightening on to is bevelled for the olive to sit in. Due to over tightening this his sharp edge (rather than flat) has likely cut it to the washer.

If I’m in this situation, I typically take a file and flatten the compression end.

I have attached an image of the brass body within a tap. Having replaced a cartridge which has cured a leaking tap, I can see that there is a small leak from the brass body which can be unscrewed. Is there a seal behind the body? Thanks.

Hi. I need a new toilet supply line but don’t know the size type of the fitting at the shut off valve. It is not 3/8 compression. It is a plastic nut about the same size as the one going into the cistern but has a different thread. Attached is a photo. Can you advise. Thanks.

The fittings below are for a mixer bar attached to a self contained shower. i.e not a wall. The attaching screws have snapped. I could get two new brackets, dismantle that existing one and start again or I could try and re attach via those screws, removing the broken ones from the plate and wall...
