Hi there,

I have a commercial customer who asked me a few months ago to investigate a toilet that kept blocking. They'd just had the blockage professionally pressure washed out, but wanted me to see what I could do to avoid it happening again. On inspection, I found that the soil pipe leading from the pan was pointing uphill, so I levelled it correctly, and raised the water level in the cistern such that the syphon sent a greater volume of water down per flush.

I felt happy with the job, until I heard today that it's happened again. I have them booked in next week to have another go.
My only thought at present is that there could be a restriction in the pipework, such as plaster from a wayward plasterer, or that it was cut roughly on installation, and there are burs collecting detritus and leading to a blockage.

The property is 4 storey, and the soil stack which serves the problematic toilet on the ground floor also serves toilets on the 3 floors above, all of which are fine, so I assume that it must be venting properly. From memory, it seemed to be flushing fine after it was unblocked previously, although perhaps the pan was ever so slightly slow to empty.

Can any of you think of any other issues which could be the culprit? I would like to avoid looking clueless upon my return!

Thanks to you all.

Benedict
