whats the easiest way to mend a leaky rad tapping, boiler is a combi system, cheers anyone, ajoint

mike,so what is the simplest way to change the tapping or remake it,some one said i would first have to relive the pressure on the aav on the boiler?is that correct?ajoint

I should look for the system drain off to relieve the pressure fella, thats what its for.

How about turning the radiator valves off and releasing the pressure through the vent?

I take it you're talking about the tail that sits between the rad and the valve.......

id close both valves, relive the pressure through the rad vent, dustsheets & towel underneath (maby aquavac on the handy if it looks dodgy) then have a closed isolating valve on the handy , unscrew the rad nut that connects the rad and valve , snatch it off and the isolator on the tail ( if its 1/2") then ptfe a new tail and put a closed isolator on this, unscrew the tail off and stick the new one on and thread it in, take the isolator off and stick he valve back on, open both and vent rad, no draining nearly required, you will lose some water, maby half a cup, if the rad tail is 3/4" or pipes come out of concerete floor then it becomes a difernent matter!!!

tip also , make sure its actually the tail thats leaking and not water dripping off the rad plug or vent!!! sometimes customers phone me, "rad valve dripping/leaking" when its actually the plug or vent

If you are frightened by water in the wrong place - (some modern plumbers are) why not
pump up the rad with the valves open - push all the water out then do a croppie
no naughty water.

To quite honest this terror of water is not unusual - in that we often deal and manage leaking water because we know how much will spill and why but some others who are not fully conversant PANIC - my mate Jimbo BG Enginner (gas only) is really water phobic and not alone nowadays........centralheatking
