Hi there,

We have a shower unit which normally has a peg-shaped trap in the waste to prevent large objects going down the waste pipe. However when it gets clogged up with hair etc. my other half tends to just pull it out (and leave it out) so lo and behold, something large has gone down there and got stuck.

I've accessed the waste pipe under the shower and it's not in any of the pipe I can get into. The pipe then disappears under the floor where it meets up with the waste from the sink and I can only assume it's trapped somewhere in that junction. Basically the water drains very very slowly now in the shower but if you give it one single plunge with a plunger it dislodges whatever is down there and the water drains again rapidly. I think whatever it is (likely a shampoo bottle top) is creating a kind of valve and when you create some suction through the plunger it releases the valve long enough for the water to drain but then it locks back in again.

Is there any way I can dislodge or get this out without ripping the whole floor up? I think I know the answer already but I thought I would ask the professionals!

Cheers,

Olly

Are you sure it's not a 40mm non return valve sticking. (Or the top sticking in the valve)

Cheapo borescope off amazon will tell you what's down there. They're fiddly but dirt cheap And come with various grabbing tools

Wet vacs good shout if you've one handy (or you can hire)
