Incredibly noisy boiler from flue.

I've just had a Worcester Bosh 25-32 Heat Slave oil fired boiler installed and the sound from the flue is like a jet engine and can be heard 25 yards away at the bottom of my garden. I'm told oil fired boilers are quite noisy but this is ridiculous. Is this normal. I even spent a few pounds on a sound meter. The specs say it has a noise level of 55 decibels but I'm not sure if this means inside or outside. Its perfectly quiet inside the boiler house but outside its 66 decibels.

When it was fitted a part in a plastic bag called a damper which says must be fitted was left off, could this be the problem.

Any advice before I ring the manufacturer would be welcome, I would hate to have to live with it.

Hi. The installer should have left you the boiler manual, inside there it should say when to fit and when not to, depends on flue length, I'm looking at an old manual, which isn't upto date. Have a look through and report back. If in doubt phone technical tomorrow.

Update: flue damper only required on 32KW model if flue length is equal to or less than 4 metres

Thanks for that, he did leave a manual and you are correct about the 4 metres. The flue is straight out of the wall at head height so it looks like damper needs to be fitted. Looks reasonably easy to do and I really hope it makes it a bit quieter. Thanks

I hope you will have the installer back, if you fiddle with it you will lose any protection over the whole installation, flues no matter how simple are for experts, this one ought to return at no charge

Further to that, installing the damper without modifying the combustion settings may cause problems. As CHK says, the installer should return and put this right at no extra charge.

These things happen and I'm sure they will put it right but it is important it is done correctly.

In that case you need to get the installer back to put the damper in. This is not something you should do yourself as the CO2 will need to be adjusted again to suit new flue pull. It should say that in the manual as well but you might have missed that.

Hi - did this work? I have exactly the same problem with the same boiler we have only just had fitted. Our neighbour is very unhappy (understandably) and we have moved and changed the flue twice, with no success. Help!!
