How can I fix my Potterton 80e bolier that keeps tripping the reset button.?

In this colder weather the boiler operates normally but for no apparant reason the reset button is triggered. I have to press the reset button to fire up the boiler again.
One minute fine so assume pump, valves pressure as OK.
Also trips out if I try to increase the temperature is turn the dial on fron of boiler from 3 to 4.
Got my 90 year old mum coming for Christmas and must have heating working!
Any advice would be helpful.

Is it a profile tony? They're prone to overheating! However the stats aren't that expensive to replace IMO

I too am having Profile problems. Right now mine is DFW. I am still trying to get the screw out of the case underneath to get to see the innards!

Mine has worked fine for a long time.... but WAS making funny noises from time to time. I went away for a few days (Mum had a serious heart attack!), and when I went back, the house was cold.... Pump running (there was demand - I'd left it on constant but the roomstat at 10 deg). Fan was cycling on and off, no pilot, no main burner.

British Gas F2 (autumn 2000) which equals Profile F50.

If only I could get the darned cover off, I'd check fan (which SOUNDS like it's running, but I cannot eyeball it and I cannot get to the other side of where it discharges). I'd also check / replace the Control Box.... and look at the APS. As I said, my problem is more fundamental - the darned casing fixing screw!

Any comments / help offered? Thanks so much

Hmmm - I am clearly being misunderstood! Firstly, and foremost, I am not about to post on a plumbing forum requesting help in unscrewing a screw!

Anyway - the screw had clearly been cross-threaded by my last engineer..... so had to prize the cover off, since a combo of the silly trapdoor and the indent where the screw head sits made it impossible to get a purchase on it to wrench it undone. I left the screw in place in the end.

I have a loose white wire hanging down! Presumably, it has a key job to do. It comes down from the main boiler cavity, via the grommet, and it's got a spade connector on it.
