I know theres a thread like this one on the plumbing forum but i just wondered what hourly rate a gas safe fitter / service and maintenance engineer should charge as im looking into going self employed later this year? I was thinking maybe £50-55 an hour? and maybe £200-250 per day? im in the west mids. Is this about right?

at £50 a hour you'd only need to work 5 hours then that would pay your fully day rate. The way i do it is how much would you be happy to take a day? Devide by your hours and add a little bit extra for traveling if your doing a day of maintanance or servicing to cover the time spent traveling.

If i'm fitting a part/appliance I normally add a bit on for that.
Labour wise I normally charge what I think the job was worth which I have found to be the best way. It must work because I don't advertise and pick up my work through reccomendations. Just got to find the right balance.

on a similar vein , what is the going rate for land lord checks, I charge 50-55 for a boiler service, still less than bg, and 45 for a land lord check on a boiler, 35 for a fire and 30 for a hob. any comments:rolleyes:

I'm charging £75 for boiler service. On average i charge around £275-300 per day per person. Im nr Windsor. Good luck with your venture later on in the year.
