Hi All,

I need to fix some u channel onto a tiles fixed onto dotted and dabbed plasterboard onto original plaster and brick. The u channel is going to hold a 10mm glass screen. How do I fix the u channel? I'm thinking some sort of resin anchor but I'm just an ignorant amateur bodger. I'm hoping you profis can advise the best way to do this

Thanks!

Tom

if its brick behind and its decent, a normal brown plug and long decent screw (6mm dia by normally 3-4"

but the key is spanning the gap i normally use a piece of 15mm copper (length wise touching the brick and flush with the wall)

So a 15 mm hole?

just through the dot and dab (drill your brown plug hole all the way (through the dot and dab) and into the brick (21/2-3" into the brick work

cut a 15mm round hole in the plaster board

measure the distance from the brick work to the finish of the wall/ plasterboard/ flush with he tiles etc

cut a piece of copper tube this length

fit rail and screw like your fixing on a normal brick/block and plastered wall (make sure your copper doesn't fall into the gap between the brick and plasterboard if its alot)

hope this makes sense

the copper tube is to stop the plaster board pulling in / compressing when your screwing your screw in

Thanks Shaun, that plasterboard is tiled - still drill a 15 mm hole thru that?

yes

depending on length of channel normally 4-6 fixings per channel is required
