hi all.

just did a job for a regular customer of mine. he had a toilet and a sink that he wanted putting in his newly decorated bathroom. turns out these were 2nd hand items he had from some friend of his, anyway i fitted them and they looked oldish but problem was everything that could have leaked did (they were already dressed i.e taps were on, plug hole was fitted, cisten guts were fitted etc).

does this happen alot with 2nd hand items?

does anyone here refuse to fit them?

i think next time ill just re do all the fittings myself to save time and problems later on,

what a way to start the week lol bloody mondays.

depends how they've been treated or how long they been sitting around.

as you know and rubber can go brittle etc but as for taps they should be ok. ie tap to pipework just fit a new flexi or fibre washer.
wastes just re-seal them should be ok.

i always advise first that they may or may not work and don't offer any warranty on secondhand parts.

cheers sonray.

the taps were the only thing that was leak free, i think ill follow in your footsteps and do the same, no guarantee lol.

thanks again for the advice,

J

Hi. I do not know if its common practice with plumbers now During my reign, when installing ranges of basins, butler sinks and shower trays i would make up the wastes fit appliance in its position and then with the aid of a washing up liquid bottle filled with white gloss. Squirt a small amount in the weir over flow. The paint via gravity flows down sealing the waste from the inside too much and it comes out the slotted waste so do not fit the trap before using this method. ( The paint don't leak as the viscosity is less than water) leave over night never a problem. Good Luck
