I have recently inherited a 2800sft home and it has a duel heating system. Run by oil and a 30kw multi fuel stove. It was originally only heated by oil but was upgraded 3 years ago. When the stove fully going with fuel, its making a gurgling sound as if air is trapped or water is boiling! No noise from rads!
The previous owner always mentioned the stove did make noises but never had any problems. It also when fully lite, drips came out of the over flow. He never did get around to gette it tuned in.

A cousin of mine who hasn't looked at it yet suggested he could extend the expansion pipe and drop the water level in the header tank which should stop this problem.

Wanting to run it past heating enginers/plumbers on here to see if this idea would be a productive solution?

Amazing heating output from the stove when fully lite, all rads very hot and living area is very warm also. Another slight issue is when the oil is on on its own, its heating the stove and when the stove is lite on its own, its heating the oil burner. Would this be the norm or would there be ways to stop them doing this.

What system has been used to dual the system? Thermal store, neutraliser etc etc etc. Or is it a bit of pipe and a couple of Tees?

Dual boiler primary water system will probably not circulate effectively without a neutraliser installed. Have seen some sysyems where heated primary water from one boiler goes to back boiler of unused stove and that heat simply dissipates up the flue.
If you got gurgling, then you may have circulation and air problems.
Unless you are skilled and experienced in CH plumbing, your best option may be to have a pro look at your installation. Unless of course you can talk to the person who carried out the work. That might shed light on the design, or possibly highlight their inadequacies.

Hi, I have a stove pumping over into the f&e. The pump and thermostat both work and the system is free from sludge (very clear for an open vented system). The layout seems a bit funny to me but the customer reckons its worked for years. (I did spot two vents into the F&E so maybe someone was...
