Came back home today to find a damp patch of carpet inan upstairs room. Some of this has leaked through into the room below.

Anyone got any ideas? There are no appliances etc in the room, just a spare bed. Could it be a burst pipe, or a sign of one to come? I thought water would gush out and wreck everything if that was the case but this hasn't happened.

Any help appreciated!

Hi. Was the occupant on the beer last night? Check the wardrobe for dampness. If this is not the case post a bit more info.

Hi. Are there pipes in or about the room, central heating, airing cupboard, pipe buried in walls, cistern directly above in loft, next to bathroom, the roof is sound, etc.

have you taken the carpet up ? is it wetter underneath ?
are there any pipes that run under the floor in this area ?
is the ceiling above wet ?
