Discuss creating a niche in a shower glass wall in the USA area at PlumbersForums.net

I am creating a wet room with the shower area panelled in glass. I would like to make a niche beside the shower controls but I'm scratching my head about how to make the join between the niche and the glass panel water proof. For appearances I'd rather not have anything too bulky over hanging the edge of the hole in the glass panel. I am looking into premade niche boxes but they all assume you will be tiling over them. I have attached a WIP visualisation of the bathroom. Any thoughts appreciated.

How is the glass attached to the wall?

Does the glass have a ‘non see through’ backing?

If so, tile a niche into the wall finishing flush to the wall with flat tile trim as the final surface. A bead of clear silicone on this trim as the glass is fitted to wall and should be fine. If glass is coloured then use colour match silicone.

Thanks. I haven't worked out the glass fixing. Maybe some sort of adhesive although the boarding behind I plan to be Wedi board so it can't be silicone. Probably Wedi 610 The glass will be opaque.
Will the 610 do the same job as the silicone in your suggestion do you think?

Niches are “ so last year “ or should I say decade , bloody awful things not worth the effort . ( my opinion of course ) lol
I appreciate these kinds of details can date but it's a very small bathroom so I'm trying to maximise the space by using the stud walls for storage (see the other shelving in the design). Is your objection aesthetic or practical based on risk of leakage?

Personally both , tbf I have never seen one in glass but tiled ones are the pits

Incidentally, why use wedi? The glass is waterproof...
I suppose it is a bit extravagant. The rest of the room will be wedi board. I suppose I could switch to plasterboard behind the glass to save some money. I suppose it's my inexperience. It is going to be a wet room and I wanted absolutely no chance of any leaks getting through anywhere.

Thanks. I'll take a look.

If you use the acrylic panels you HAVE to ensure that the walls are flat as they just follow all the bumps and lumps - I’ve seen them look terrible especially in the corners.
I’ve used them once and had to stud off all the walls to make them any sense, looked fine but I would not use again. In my opinion you are better off with mermaid (etc) wallboard (nice and stiff, easy to fix things to too).
If you want this look - go for glass and get the specialist supplier to fit it too.

Hi, basic question, any insight much appreciated. Looking to have an outdoor tap in my front porch fed from 15mm pex coming up from suspended floor. Pic 1 is inside porch, pex temporarily clipped to give an idea of pipe placement (ignore shoddy blockwork of booted cowboy builder!), Pic 2 is...
