Dear forum,
I've an open (gravity) CH system supplying radiators only (AGA does the HW separately). It's a Vaillant Ecotec 435 installed 2018. The walls are v thick and prevented wireless thermostat signals so a plumber bypassed the thermostats a year ago. We have TRVs in all rooms apart from the lounge which has no valves (re safety for the pump). A year later the heat exchanger has failed. The plumber who identified this said likely because the boiler was calling for heat permanently, but also said the exchanger was full of debris. The system has had a magnetic filter for years and the water, when drained off, looks very clean. We live in a hard water area. I put inhibitor in once (I know I should have done that more). My question is "can the exchanger damage come from bypassing the central thermostats or is it more likely that it is limescale?". I thought continuous heating at a lower temp was inefficient but not boiler-damaging. The boiler intermittently locked out (F83) for the last year before failing. Many thanks indeed for any advice.

do you have a timer on the heating ?

Then yes running 24/7 and no control don’t understand why he couldn’t install a timer you could control your heating then etc

Hello, I am seeking some advice, I have a POTTERTON PROMAX 28 COMBI Boiler and I noticed yesterday that the water around the house is no longer warming up. The heat exchanger has been changed 6 months ago, so I do not believe it is that. Does anyone have any ideas on what it could be? Thanks

Ideal Logic 24, Previous problem was that the hot water was only cold or barely warm if the heating was in use. If heating was off and boiler cold then would get hot water most of the time. Changing the flow cartridge about 2 years ago (when I moved in) solved this problem enough to suffer it as...

Our kitchen mixer tap has started dripping. Like so much of the plumbing in our almost new build bungalow, it is lacking! The plumber didn't install any isolating cocks in the H&C feed to the tap so how can I identify which of the valves is passing? Shut the whole H&C water system down?

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as...
