A few times a month i come across small builders doing plumbing work in domestic properties . This week was a builder who put a new water tank in the loft but wasn't confident about dropping radiators in the bedrooms for the decorators to paint behind, strange as its more hassle to get the new tank in the loft and pipe than to drop a few radiators . Second one was a new cylinder , got a call from a cust who wanted a plumbers opinion on the new cylinder a builder had put in for her .This builder had removed the old cylinder had gone to the merchants returned with a cylinder of incorrect size realised it wouldn't fit in the cupboard then took it back to merchants .
Builder then returns with no cylinder tells the customer he is now going on holiday and she will be without hot water for a couple weeks untill he returns , leaves strict instructions that she cant get no one else to install a cylinder whilst he is away as its a specialist cylinder that only he knows as he has removed it .
Builder then returns from holiday with new cylinder , cant fit it in cupboard as still got wrong size cylinder so then proceeds to demolish cupboard to get cylinder in .To say the job looked a shambles was an understatement which begs the question why dont these people just get a plumber in the first place??? No as if there is a shortage !!

quote A few times a month i come across small builders ,watch the midgets they bite lower down
basically there are lots of cowboy builders about trying to save money,i once seen a cylinder connected with flexys no wonder they had burst and brought the ceiling down

:tongue:again BIG SMILE on my face :):tongue:

i always get smile on my face when those things do happen :)

well done to all customers is there fault

why not use us and get it done in 1h as some members here know that can be done !!!!

See em all in the merchants on a morning, with their bags of speedfit and pushfit wastes, full of questions..............don't get any answers:innocent:

theres a few round my way with big vans all signwrittwen up

'xxxxxxxx building services'
all building work and plumbing undertaken.

morons.

one of them paid me 120 quid to branch into upstairs h and c below floor cos stoptap didn't work and neither did outside one. i ran downstairs taps and did it live. what he was doing was installing a w/c in ..........the DINING ROOM! he wanted advice on running the waste through the wall and connecting into stack which was conveniently placed just to the side of where the back of w/c was in back yard. told him he would need a short length of soil pipe an elbow and a branch. he didn't fancy that much. he asked if he could use a long flexi pan connector from the toilet through the wall pull it round then connect to branch. told him NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

went back to change stop tap at a later date when utilities had fixed external stop tap and guess what??? yep he'd used the big long flexi.........

You mean building control missed it when they inspected his works after he notified the changes under the building regs?

I expect there are a number of builders who tut, tut when then see what some plumber's gone and done (e.g. drilling too large a hole through a joist, not supporting a water cistern properly, not protecting underground pipework (e.g. oil line)) ...

One job I went to customer complained of no dhw after there old leaking cylinder had been changed by a "white van man". Thought ace just an airlock!

No chance, the mad man had replaced the cylinder like for like in size, but didn't/hadn't realised that the old cylinder was a primatic and he just put in a bog standard in-direct Hahahahahah laughed my rse at that one (all the way to the scrappy's)
