Hi, this is my first post, it might be a bit long because im trying to put all the info which could be relevant but i'll try to avoid waffling on too much!
Anway we're having an extension built on the back of our house (or I should say have had, its pretty much finished) and during the process we had our BG330 boiler moved from what was the utility room into the loft. The building work involved knocking through the kitchen, dining room and lounge and replacing the 3 rads which were in each room with 3 vertical column rads, which are bigger than what was there originally. All the downstairs rads are on 10mm pipework.
Since the work has been done it has introduced some problems with our heating and hot water, some of which have been rectified and some haven't but i'll list them as it may be relevant to the main problem i'm left with which is the boiler kettling (which started as soon as the boiler was moved to the loft, never done it before).
The first problem was that the hot water stopped being heated by the boiler, and would only be heated by the immersion heater. The plumber/heating engineer who did the work said the mid position was was faulty, replaced it and all is well. I don't know if it really was faulty, or it had been wired up wrong when the control panel was moved or what but the end result is it now works.
Then the two radiators in the living room which were untouched by the plumber stopped getting hot, where they used to get very hot indeed. The plumber said basically he'd bled everything, its probably got an air lock which will work its way through, give me a call if it doesn't, see ya later! Of course a week goes by, nothing has improved and surprise surprise he's being a bit hard to get to get hold of. I took the rads off myself and flushed them out, they were pretty black and when i refitted and refilled one started to work, the other still no good. To cut a long story short, i removed the not working rad again, back flushed the feed pipe with mains pressure and that now also works well again, so i guess all the works dislodged some sludge into the pipework or something. Anyway end result, all the rads in the house now work well.
So the main problem i'm left with is the kettling boiler when the central heating is on (not sure if it does it when HW only is on) I've replaced the central heating pump (just because i had a brand new one in my box of bits) bled the rads, pump and pipe next the hot water tank as much as i could not that any air comes out, and turned the stat on the boiler right down. There has been a slight improvement, the pump is obviously quieter (even though its on speed III) but i'm left with a loud banging for a couple of seconds from the pump area on start up and the boiler kettling every few minutes and sometimes locking out with message f24. I've tried various additives in the F/E tank but they've been ineffective, the only thing currently in the system is inhibitor.
With the plumber now being more evasive, and the building company shrugging their shoulders i'm after any pearls of wisdom? (apart from 'use a better building company next time'! I know that but its a bit late!)
Could moving the boiler have dislodged some scale or something into the boiler? Is it possible that the pump isn't strong enough to pump the water around now the boilers up high? Could it have been plumbed or wired in wrong? The heating does actually work ok, its just noisy.
Sorry for the long post, i suspect i'll end up going to another heating company and have to get someone else to sort it out, but as a reasonably practical person i'm trying to see if there's anything i can do myself first.
