Hi,

I have a Kernel hot water cylinder system that heats hot water for my flat.

Every 20 mins or so it makes a whirring sound - it is the same sound as when a hot water tap is being run.

It sounds like the motor is running for a few seconds, then it stops.

A friend has a similar issue and said that air needed to be pumped into the area circled in the attached image. This stops the water pump motor being unnecessarily triggered.

Is this an easy job to do myself? What would I need to do?

Thanks,
Alex

just a foot pump to refill it charge pressure should be on the label system needs to be drained first

Thanks.

Does that mean the tank should be drained of water first?

And I can see where the pump is attached. The label says:

Preloading Pressure, 13PSI.

Does this mean pump up to 13PSI? I have a standard bicycle pump

Check that there are no dripping taps or ball valves, this can cause the problem
that you are experiencing.

Switch off electric power to pump.

If all is ok then turn off the gate valves that are feeding the pump and open hot
and cold taps (no need to drain down).

Check the pressure of the vessel and if under the stated pressure then pump up
with your bike pump to the recommended pressure.
