Hi,

We are having an extension which is going horribly over budget. Our latest obstacle is that our builder has said that he is unable to procure or fit a new extraction flue to our boiler, because:
a) it is an old boiler where the necessary parts are now obsolete (a Potterton Suprima, Serial No: AHHO 751 0246. When serviced last year we were told it is in good condition and has another 6 or 7 years left in it. We think it is the original from when the house was built in 1999)

b) plumbers are unwilling to fit the parts because sometimes this will cause failure, and they want to protect their reputation (we have been advised that the required parts are straight connector, 3 bends, 2M of flue (pipe))

As such, we have been recommended to replace the system, which we simply cannot afford.

Does this sound like good advice? Your advice will be greatly appreciated (especially if it involves not replacing the system!)

make sure anyone touching the boiler is gas safe and tbh i dont think you will get a flue as its 16 years old

might be worth phoning baxi/potterton up

Sounds like the builder is passing on the info from his plumber, which sounds right to me,have you tried getting flue parts for obsolete boilers it's near impossible no one stocks them and why would they.Unless you know of a specialist supplier who sells flues for old boilers, can't see it though.

even if you could get flue the configuration your suggesting would be over the permited length for this boiler page 13 here [DLMURL]http://www.potterton.co.uk/docs/101209_Potterton_Suprima_HE_Range_installer_guide.pdf[/DLMURL]

That was my first thought as well Steve but could'nt be bothered looking for the MI. The flue won't be extended IMO

Aye but that's the he range, I would suspect that they've got the original suprima. Doesn't matter still be out with the manus length of 3.4m max ( 90 = 1m )

Also,we've not been aloud to fit non condensing boilers for about ten years now so,which head the ball is going to open a shop selling flues for them.
