sludge
Sludge is a semi-solid slurry that can be produced from a range of industrial processes, from water treatment, wastewater treatment or on-site sanitation systems. For example, it can be produced as a settled suspension obtained from conventional drinking water treatment, as sewage sludge from wastewater treatment processes: 23–25 or as fecal sludge from pit latrines and septic tanks. The term is also sometimes used as a generic term for solids separated from suspension in a liquid; this 'soupy' material usually contains significant quantities of 'interstitial' water (between the solid particles). Sludge can consist of a variety of particles, such as animal manure.Industrial wastewater treatment plants produce solids that are also referred to as sludge. This can be generated from biological or physical-chemical processes.
In the activated sludge process for wastewater treatment, the terms "waste activated sludge" and "return activated sludge" are used.
In food processing and beverage-making industries, sludge can have high protein content and other nutrients that can be used for beneficial purposes such as animal feed, thereby avoiding disposal at a landfill.
I have flushed a CH system removed each Rad and removed any residue of black sludge filled the system up and treated with inhibitor. However after 2 days the water in the Overhead tank is gone red. The Ground floor rads are piping hot and the upstairs are Luke warm bleed the rads still no joy...
Is there a device where you can bleed the system water in to and look through it like a little tube and if you can see the
circle at the bottom its clean. If not it needs flushing.
Hi all,
We recently moved into an eight bed victorian B&B. Th previous owners had a very, very relaxed attitude to maintenance and improvement!
We have found two radiators that have leaked (perforated), suggesting inhibitor wasn't used for some period. On removing one on the ground floor, it...

Sludge is the #1 cause of central heating breakdown. We have a wide range of ADEY Filters and Chemicals
I got a Mains Pressure Hot water System, it's about 3 years old. The shower filters get blocked yearly, and if it gets drained for maintenance, when you purge the system, you get loads of brown sludge.
This is on the hot water side only.
How can I prevent this brown sludge build-up, and how can...
We are building a new home in Pakistan and plan to have a basement with guest room and full bath. It being a guest room won't see much action most of the year.
Two different plumbing guys told me that sewage sludge/ejector pumps for basement sewage pit breakdown if not used frequently, so...
I have a vaillant boiler eco plus that came with a 5 year warranty.
On the last service no issues were found ( although the chamber wasn't physically opened - not required by the manufacturer as it would then require new seals)
A water sample testing came positive and was advised to have the...
A few months ago I had a problem with the diverter valve in my boiler (an old but well-maintained Worcester Bosch). The plumber came to repair the boiler but after taking a sample of not more than a few drops from the valve in the boiler decided that the system had sludge and would not proceed...
You amazing bunch were able to help me out greatly a few months ago and I’m hoping you will be able to do the same this time around.
7 months ago we had a new boiler fitted and had TRVs added to 3 out of 4 rads (we decided against the kitchen one closest to the boiler as we will be remodelling...
Hi
I moved into my house a year ago. It's 4 Bed, Victorian Semi over 3 floors.
Since moving in we have had the pump, both thermostats replaced and a new diverter valve because they were scummed up and stuck open.
Basically our problem is that even after balancing the system the ground floor...

Have a Worcester 30i with new rads bar 2, magna clean and descale fitter but bar 2 rads all others are hot at top but much cooler at the bottom.
Any ideas what it could be?
Google seems to suggest sludge or balancing rads and am erring towards latter as sludge would not be issue in the...

Some of the radiators in my home are hot on top and cold at the bottom suggesting a buildup of sludge, while some radiators work perfectly fine. If it is a sludge problem shouldn't it affect all radiators? What else could the priblom be other than sludge buildup?
And in case it is sludge...
Hi
I have an approximately fifteen year old Glowworm Hideaway 80B with a F&E cistern in the loft, and have been having problems that I cannot get to the bottom of.
The issue is that heating only turns on if the hot water is turned off and then on again in a certain order (and only if there...

Hi all.
I've taken on a contract to look after a local college and they have a number of oil fired appliances, boilers and Andrews water heaters.
We've had issues on one of the dorms. First the boiler pump and motor seized up. We replaced them and serviced the appliance - new nozzle...
Hi Guys went to a job a couple of days ago, had to replace a section of cold feed pipe as it was blocked.
System refilled ok. Bit of a nightmare to have it all running fine though. At first there was a lot of air in the system but that now seems to have cleared.
Heat is getting round to...
Hello chaps
Two years and 20 call outs (insured)
The radiators were power flushed two years ago and an inhibitor left in the system
Two years on fernox water sample is clear.
Filter also fitted two years ago.
System loses pressure but mostly just stops
Engineer says the boiler itself...
Hi
We are gradually working our way through the house refurbishing it as we go. Our boiler is a netaheat profile and I suspect around 15 years old. No doubt it could do with replacement however we are trying to spread the cost out as we go.
The he rooms that have been refurbished have new...
Hi, my first post so hi everyone.
we recently moved into a new house, with black particles swimming through the upstairs cold taps. Upon inspecting the attic water tank, there was around an inch of sludge in the bottom. So we got a plumber in last week to disconnect the tank and hook the cold...
