I Always use polypipe fittings when not using copper. i prefer it because it has 16 teeth and can be used with copper as well (if needed).
I used to use equator but never like demounting the fittings.

I'm just really asking what other fittings are as good as or better than polypipe fittings? And ones that you have had bad experiences with that i should stay away from.
 
I always use soldered joints were possible, cheaper too :)

One thing I do stay away from and that is speed fit :eek:
 
Thats the white easily demountable stuff?

Think i've only ever used it as blanks during a pressure test.
 
New build use alot of polypipe but know alot of good plumbers who swear by john guest speedfit for all the hidden pipework. Just tails that are copper. All tested to 18 bar after 1st fix and had very few leaks or problems. John guest is a breeze to use.
 
Been working in a house this week fitting bathrooms, the heating was done in Hep2o, right up to the radiator valves :eek: I have never seen an instalation look so ****e in my life, I do mean look, everything was fitted right as far as I could see. There was hep elbows and conectors on show everywhere, plastic is ok where you can't see it but on show then copper all the way
 
Hep2o is what I use under the floor cos I can rely on it. Bring the tails up in copper though.
 
copper 4 me. but i do have jg speed fit components in the box, and if needed are the ones i use. i do like the stop ends tho for temp capping.

If I use plastic always hep,good sound joint as far as plastic goes,however in early days did a few showers were I took hot and cold from bath suppliers,run plastic up inside wall to shower unit and fitted push fit speed fit,was not doing a lot of joints,one tee and a couplin, you may say not put in right,inserts used and had two that failed one was after a few weeks and you could see the mark around the pipe that it had been in the fitting correctly
Have been called out to a few floods (not my puddles I may add) because of plastic fitting popped,all speed fit and installed correctly,I would add have been to properties were thier white fitting are now yellow,still sound but do not look that good

When i started out people used to moan about yorkshire fittings because if the ring in the fitting making it look bulky,so if we used ,had to use out of sight and end feed when in view or bend up to rads,if that was the case then how can anyone use visible plastic push fittings today,went to a new extension the other day,boootful job:),lots of glass,granite work top,nice wooden kitchen,those posh large cream smooth tiles on floor and designer rads with pipes coming out walls then with hep push fit elbows on to take pipe up to rads,looked right bigs ear,even when you looked under sink,with all the visible plastic pipes and fittings,all worked ok but looked c**p and thats the only way to describe it,still say I can do the pipe work under sink faster and cheaper in copper than in plastic and looks 10 times better,but apparently soldering requires some mystical skill and a naked flame,oooh

Anyway maybe speed fit have improved over the last few years but as someone said they are good for temp capping pipes on first fix to stop plaster going down pipe work but that is about it

In year to come,there is going to be a lot of work to be had replacing these plastic fittings,especially the hot pipe work,maybe thats why the powers that be are trying to train as many plumbers as possible in preparation for the great plastic fittinggate scandle :eek:;)

Looks like pictures been air brushed to me ;)

so back to my original thought,don't trust any plastic fittings,use plastic pipe for long runs if need be but use compression fittings to connect back to copper..... sorted :)
 
Polyplumb as it has an all stainless grip ring and once it grabs its never letting go! The grip ring is after the rubber o ring so the bit of pipe going into the O ring has not been scored by the grab ring, whereas most other fittings have the grab ring first.

Hep on other jobs.

Personally I NEVER use plastic between stud walls and under floorboards as it's just too vulnerable to mice. I have had 8 floods to deal with this winter from mouse damage to plastic. One caused thousands or pounds of water damage as the people were away when it happened.

The old HPB used to be like the polyplumb.

Yeah good point Id forgotten about vermin damage.
 
Thought they put a chemical in the plastic pipe and fitting that stops mice,rats and customers children from chewing it
 
Uponor unipipe every time, not a problem with vermin due to the aluminium layer PRESS fit fittings never had one fail yet cannot say the same for push fits. Brilliant stuff.

we used to use that for underfloor at firm i was at in mansfield, holds its shape if bent and doesnt kink easily, id forgoten about that stuff, its the shizel!:)

Outdoor stopcock doesn't fully close
Hi all I'm hoping someone can shine a light on this for me Since our stop tap on the pavement has now been filled with sand for whatever reason, we are relying on our property fitted stopcock (this is outside on our garage wall) Unfortunately turning this to the closed position only reduces...
