Hi there,

I have an ILFE gas fire. It is under 7kw. It's old, possibly 25years.

There is no additional ventilation and there is nothing about ventilation in the MI's. Do ILFE's follow the same ventilation rules as DFE's?

Thanks in advance :)

why the question, is there an issue?

simple answer is different vent requirements. BUT
the fact that you have the MI's is good.
always the manufacturers instructions are the thing to follow.

HahaHaha I know and I am sure all gsr's with the quals know. Thread wants closing imo

Thanks for the quick response Simon.

No issue really. I'd like it to be part of my portfolio work but the gsr doesn't know, the training centre is a bit murky on the issue so I was trying to find some clarity on this forum. Like I said before, the MI's don't mention additional ventilation one way or another so need to go with regulations. Could it be the same calculations as a radiant fire?

if unsure the answer is to phone the manufacturer and ask, if they still exist.

these fires normally follow the standard rules for ventilation, most are designed to be below 7kw to avoid ventilation but MI is the thing to follow.

Thanks AW,

Yes, phoned up the manufacturers and they didn't know as they stopped making them years ago. They suggested following the standard rules for open flued appliances so it looks like I'll not be needing to drill a hole through the wall after all :)
