Discuss UK Plumbing & Heating Innovations Centre in the Plumbing Jobs | The Job-board area at PlumbersForums.net

it will be all inclusive however as I know about patent law we will have to be carefull about specific info in the public domain...all ideas on how it might work are welcome

Yes it definitely shouldn't be publicly accessible, I was thinking a private message board whereby people who have used the innovation centre are given personalised login details, that way you can carry on discussions, ideas, plans... remotely but you will a) have a face to the username b) only users of the centre would be able to view what is posted, kindof like a virtual private members club.

Initially I was going to give and invite general advice from all. Act as a forum to exchange general info and non specific experience. If UKPF wants to host this ..why not ? UK Plumbing & Heating Innovations Forum..
there has been enough intrest from moderators and older hands to make this work. Then when dealing with specific ideas we MUST be very private ...I will ask a patent attorney to explain quite why if you all like

Obviously I have a little understanding of patents now we have (EDIT - applied for) them in so many places.

NO discussion could go on around detail of any proposal without a form of either NDA or without having already applied for patents. To do so runs a very real risk of 'prior art' which then kills your idea stone dead IF it is potentially patentable.

Personally, I feel 'membership' should be restricted AND, all participants (including mods and site admins) would need to physically sign an NDA in order to protect ideas and the people with them.

If I'm being honest, I'd never discuss anything other than wide concepts here as the recent events have vividly demonstrated that public forums such as these are vulnerable. That's no criticism of it whatsoever BTW. If you wish to open a public forum then you cannot have a secure forum; they are, by necessity, two sides of the same coin.

David

EDIT: It is illegal (criminal offence) to 'claim' patents when they are not formally granted.

Thing is PWP, the power of such a gathering is the literal 'sanity check' that those who do the job day in day out can bring to the millions of ideas we all have on a daily basis. One of the most important adages of inventing is 'Fail Early'. What that means is do not pursue something not worth pursuing. Fail early to limit what you spend to find out it simply isn't going to be viable.

Viable, sustainable & scaleable are three other pillars to build upon. For something to fly it must be all three otherwise no one is going to invest because they'll never get any return upon that investment.

Your concept of a sanity check is fundamental, many people try to solve a problem that does not need solving or one that nobody will purchase, centralheatking

Amen Bro... :cool::cool::cool:
however there is nothing stopping the naive trying and achieving a patent for something that neither works or anybody wants. My patent attourney costs £350.00 per hour and my latest patent cost over £48,000 ...so beware of gambling ...it can cost a house
I was going to present these points to UKPF forum group

We are trying to build up a picture for UKPHIC ....so...
DO NOT tell anything about your idea/s but just post a reply if you have or do have an idea

If you have a new product you need to ask yourself:-

Does it solve a problem 'better' than other solutions?
Is it a problem worth solving?
Can I show 'inventive step' so I can protect my idea?
Can I commercialise it so at least if I cannot protect it I am first to market?

I have a proven record as an inventor, taking a plumbing product from concept, to Grant Of Patent, and full commercialisation.

I am happy to support/join UKPHIC.
