Discuss (UK) Gas Assessment - What to expect? in the Gas Engineers Forum area at PlumbersForums.net

Hey,

I'm a new entrant and I've just completed my 2 year training course and have my final week gas assessment next week. I was just looking for some advice on what I can expect? (I'm not asking for answers or cheat sheets, just what the final assessment week intales so I can be best prepared).

Thanks

Not sure as I must have done a different route, had 1 day a week for 4 months or so with a mix of theory and practical for the portfolio, followed by a 2 day exam process of the first day being multiple, multiple choice question papers then a day of practical assessments.

I had my old college tutor running it as part of his new gas assessment center business. It was very relaxed and in their best interest for you to pass (the easier it is to pass the more likely you are to recommend them).

If you've gone down the apprenticeship route (which I did not) then its highly likely the week will be a ton of theory and catch up of things you've already covered, probably making a load of notes in your gas safe books ready for the open book tests which will probably be close to what I mentioned above.

I had to do 3-4 days a month for 2 years. Completing some test papers and building a portfolio which then gave me the LCL certificate saying I was able to continue on to the final assessments. So I'm at the center Mon-Fri next week, so I'd assume its a day or two refresher and then the written assessments and practical.

Also, I've been told by a colleague that you must get 100% on the question papers. Is this correct?

It's honestly a doddle. They allocated a day to the paper tests and I was home before lunch.

Have you done any mock tests yet? Some of the questions are comical, like 80% common sense and then some just looking through a book to find the right BS number

Yeah done a couple during the 2 years training course. That doesn't sound too bad then, you've eased my nerves
