Recently moved in to a flat and we have a Saniflo toilet in the ensuite.

For a while it was okay but then it started running occasionally without being used.

It has started running every hour or so through the night and it makes a huge noise so we just switched it off.

After turning it off though, we noticed that after a couple of days or so, the shower tray began to fill, lucky we caught it just in time and turned it back on before overflowing.

I've attached pictures as I'm not sure hot to get into the motor to see if it's blocked.

I've got three questions:

1. Is it normal that while the motor for the toilet is off, the water gets pumped back up the pipe to the shower?
2. If I disconnect the toilet, water is going to go everywhere as I can't drain the toilet bowl (Never done much plumbing) What's the best way to go about that?
3. Could there be a blockage in the shower pipes that is causing this rather than in the motor?

Toilet running into the bowl ?

Sink tap dripping ?

As Shaun mentions, something Ian discharging into the Sani. Check all connected fixtures for leaks.

Turn the water supply off to the toilet and see if it stops it.

Aha! Yes! I can see the water rippling very lightly in the bowl so there must be a slow trickle going in, how does that get fixed?
Look in side the cistern and see if the ball cock/fill valve is leaking. Turn the water supply off and once the ball cock has stopped dripping, see if the water stops going into the pan. If so, this proves the syphon/flush valve is ok and that the ball cock is the problem.

Then, turn water back on and hold the float up and see if it stops dripping. If it does, then adjust the float.

If it doesn’t stop dripping, you either need a new ball cock washer or replace the whole ball cock.

Rented or your own

Chances are it need a new siphon washer / siphon can you take a pic of inside the cistern ?

We own it so it’ll be up to us to fix.
Picture attached, there’s an occasional drip that comes out of the little tap above the green bit

Turn the water off.

Undo the left hand large green plastic nut.

In here is the large black diaphragm washer which you want to swap out. You’ll probably get black stuff on your hands as it will most likely be breaking down.
