Hey fellers, lately, i have been building up lots of pipes. I am just wondering what you guys go for.

I have read the thread on here about them. Which basically says, if the thieves want to get in, they will no matter what!

So, is it worth paying out for a proper pipe tube?

I am in need of some sought of contraption, and since i just ended up with enough scrap, to buy a proper tube, should i?

depends how you want to look imho cow boy or pro so to speak and whats it going on

i see, cowboy or pro. I have a 2006 vauxhall vivaro. Nice van. So i guess i need a nice pipe tube a.

Any ideas where to buy them? You can get 6inch ones can't you? Am sure i have seen them, but can't find them online

I've got my 3 metre long pipe tube fixed INSIDE my van so that I can access it from the back door. Far more secure than on a roof rack.

Google Rhino pipe carriers or buy from Screw Fix but they are expensive for them.

Nothing wrong with a neatly constructed 110mm soil pipe with 2 screw on end caps. I did with this for ages and I aint no cowboy. Some of you on here put image before substance. You can drive around in a brand new shiny van, have the latest tools and tech, be spotless in designer branded workwear, but chances are you'll be cack at your work and probably served your time on a 3 month fast track course.

If some wee scumbag wants to break into your van, they will. They don't care about you, your tools or your livelyhood, they only care where their next fix is coming from. I also welcome any new government legislation controlling scrap metal merchants. All too often I've seen many lengths of brand new copper tube and even rolls of lead in them.

I have the truxrax set up, very good kit. It does look a lot better than a bit of soil pipe. But if it gets you more work? I dont know.

used to have a soil pipe on my old escort, twice someone tried to rob pipe but it was empty so they just threw the screw cap away instead.
Now got a transit connect and it looks too nice to put a soil pipe on it. Got the Rhino tube with roof bars now, made up. Can fit much more pipe in than a soil pipe and the lock seems to be a good deterrant atleast.

Aint got caps on both ends mine lost them years ago leaving them on top of van and fed up replacing them on to lose them again a week later

well theres only one way to find out.........................fiiiiiiight

i've got a 3m x approx 100-125mm dia, aluminium pipe tube in my garage, its been there for yrs and it aint ever going back on a roofrack of mine, so if anyone local wants it they are welcome to pick it up, (unless someone can be bothered pricing and sorting uplift from Coatbridge Lanarkshire) no hurry but this thread made me think about it and TBH someone would be as well using it as it lying in the garage

Can I have it mate? Was looking to get one for my other van.

i brought a rhino one of ebay, a week later a second one got delivered. After several emails to the supplier explaining the mistake and them replying with "we have not made a mistake and only sent you one" i now have two on my van :)

they must have more stock than they know about lol that was a lucky break for you.

Ages ago i got a delivery from pulsar direct meant for some one else phoned and told em said just keep it thanks very much was like twenty drayton trvs and a load of fittings
:presents2:

yes it was, and i can honestly say i tried dam hard to return it. They got abit narked about me insisting they had made a mistake..... so i gave up and fitted it lol.

I cannot seem to find those TRAKRAX online. Where do you get them guys? That is what am after, a 6inch one of those.

Although, ÂŁ100 for the rhino isnt bad from pts

no way, those trakrax carriers look mean. Do they come with locks, or do you need to buy pad locks to put them on yourself?

I wind down both front windows and carry 3 metre lenghts sideways, its funny how I never have any straight pipe?

that reminds me of a clip on one of those police stop type shows with the bloke on a moped carrying planks of wood sideways lol

A friend recently learned a valuable (but embarrasing) lesson about soil pipe for a pipe tube....
Hit the barkes pretty hard, only to see the half the contents of the pipe tube shoot out through the cap on the front and scrape all down the bonnet of his 1 year old Caddy.... Made a lovely mess of the paint, and the ends of all the copper!

Lucky it missed the car in front, can imagine how much fun that would be to explain to the insurers :)

It would be interesting to see where you would stand legally if you had a soil pipe full of copper which unloaded itself over the car in the front. Personally Ive had a Rhino tube for a while now and not had any problems with it (apart from 1 lock needed changed which they replaced foc.)

The Trukrax ones dont come with locks but you just use your own padlock, I have the roofrack and tube, real good gear.

reminds me of a matress i took the tip, it stated to take off stretching my bungees!!!!!!!!!!!!

Once had to hang out the window to work the window wipers, oh the joys.

Yes!

That happen to me one Friday night, driving around and it was snowing and the wipers packed up, I had to pull one off and use it manually. Nightmare....

I once had to hold a surfboard on the roof going down the M5 to the next services! Felt like my arm was going to tear off!

Put a tube carrier on top of your van and you are effectively advertising it to every thief in the area. They are a really bad idea and even if they are empty they will draw attention to your van.

Keep your tubes inside the van.

Was giving this some thought. The problem I have with any kind of rod tube/pipe carrier is that once you take a length of pipe out of one and cut a bit off, if you put it back you are often struggling to reach it again. Wish someone would manufacture one that not only has a door at each end but would open along its entire length on hinges like a toolbox lid allowing storage and access to different sizes of lengths of pipe. Storage and easy access to decent offcuts along with 2 metre and 3 metre lengths of pipe would stop them rolling around the shelves of my van. I'm considering slitting a section of 6 inch pipe in half along its length with a grinder and fitting hinges to one side and a hasp to the other to try it out.

Why don't ya just make one register the design and sell it. You know what you want and what is needed I have done it twice first time very good second time not so good but there ya go

Be a hell of a lot easier if someone made and sold them like that in the first place.

Trukrax open either end, only problem with having shorter pipe lengths is they get damaged on both ends due to amount of banging.
So I can take out from either end, what I normally do though is slide my off cuts into the next size up, then when I look from the front if it inside another I know its a cut off.

Mines open both ends too but that's not what I'm wanting. I need something that will open up like a lid so that I can reach inside it along its entire length.

if you do contract work you do need rhino ,if work for your self half the pipes and shift them in the back of the van ,

i have rhino on my van and is empty , when I go to a install i fill it up and then stays empty
