I'm a 24 year old plumber, been doing it for 6 years now. Also have gas qualifications. Served my Apprenticeship and continue to work for a company that deals with new build housing. Looking for a complete career change and was wondering if anyone had transitioned into a new interesting career, or if anyone had knowledge of in demand jobs. Looked into offshore work but seems very hard to come by at the moment. Any help would be massively appreciated.

Antartic survey team, they need engineers to keep things going, heating, water systems etc, think it's 6months at a time, I'm definitely too old for this if I were your age this is what I would be doing. Google the above

Thanks for the reply, I'll have a look into it. Do you know what the work is like etc? Would imagine the pay would be good as working away

No idea,if you look through you may find some details or contact them

I knew 2 doctors who went working on it, a once in a lifetime experience. As I said I'm too old but would have loved the chance

I've known electricians and plumbers that have gone to Antarctica for a couple stints.

The money is not overly fantastic, but you are bedded and fed and well looked after.

Where you save money is there is nothing to spend the money you earn on.

Unless you have a wife and kids at home, you will then be surprised when you have no money left when you get home:eek::eek:
