Hi ive got a chimney that needs rendering and skimming or boarding (im Hetas Reg), I had a plasterer that was meant to do it but has let me down, whats the best thing to put round the inside of a chimney breast where a wood burner will sit and will not crack, Thanks

check out Vitcas products, they do heat proof render, plaster, mortar etc.......

also you can get heat resistant plaster from everbuild i think its called. It all depends what the temps will be.

i would avoid plasterboard unless the stoves MI's state its ok.

I don't if this is right so don't blame me if it doesn't work. I just used a sand and cement mix with a little platerciser. First coat just really firmly push on a very thin coat to key to brick this will make it easier for the second coat to stick. Then immediateley apply the thicker second coat. I was told normal plaster type products crack with heat. My stove has been in 3 years and still looks good so far.

bricks n lime mortar, like what you find in 100 year old chimmneys is best imho

Heat resistant plaster around the face (normal finish will crack and fall off after a while) I quite often line the inside of a fireplace with Masterboard / Superlux (even 12mm Hardibacker). Gives a nice square finish and takes paint well without too much hassle...

Lime based render or pointing best for fire places. Wire brush, brick acid then wash them seal to stop soot leaching through.

sand/cement/lime with SBR for adhesion and stain resistance. If fine finish is required use silver sand, available for jointing block paving.
