Discuss Outside tap soldering in the UK Plumbing Forum | Plumbing Advice area at PlumbersForums.net

Hi all, keen DIYer here. Installing an outside tap and have tried soldering the joints leading from the 15mm copper pipe to the mains pipe. My question is a bit random but as I was soldering, the copper pipe going through the wall obviously got very hot, and got me thinking, could the heat conducted create a fire within the cavity wall? Something I hadn't considered and got me a bit concerned.

Nah I doubt the heat would. I'm always careful about naked flames going inwards where the hole is but I expect it would be incredibly hard to do on a masonry wall.
Thanks Fowler. I was concerned about the insulation as well as masonry, but from what I’ve read I think insulation is generally designed to be fire retardant

Ended up finishing the job with compression joints anyway. All nice and squeaky tight and I haven’t noticed leaking. Does anyone know if compression joints can just fail, or given the fact there’s no leaking am I safe to leave the water on?
