Evening all.

Fitted the the boiler on Friday, Commissioned it using test mode, handed over to sparks for wiring up the controller, Mid position valve, Room stat and cylinder stat.

They couldnt figure it out, GW (Vaillant) Tech support don't work at weekends despite the fact that they claim to.

So so can anyone tell me how to wire the feed back from the wiring centre in the airing cupboard to the boiler ? The MIs do not tell you how to wire an external controller. All the Y plan diagrams that I can find give you the old method that livens up the boiler on demand, This boiler needs to be wired with permanent and switched lives right ? Using the block on the PCB to drive the pump. Does the boilers electronics look after the pump overrun? Do the signal cables from the controller go to the RT terminals 3&4 that are bridged by default and say 24v on them ? I need some clarity on this before I go back to the sparks again. Will call Vaillant tech support again tomorrow too.

if you are gas safe read the mis again says all you need to wire it up on pg15

Thanks for that. this is the instructions for external programmers from Pg 15

Open the electronics box.

Carry out the wiring.

Connect the individual components depending on the
type of installation

▶ Connect the controller to the main plug.
▶Remove the bridge from the plug 24V=RT

Close the electronics box.

Hmm that doesnt seem overwhelmingly comprehensive to me and yes I am GSR, The installation job was passed to me by a sparks who is doing the wiring, he has run a 5 core cable from the airing cupboard to the controller and a 3 core cable from the pump to the boiler PCB. he has also put in a 3A fused spur for the new boiler. Previous boiler was a gloworm space saver cast iron HE open flue which had failed its gas safety check due to broken case seal. this was using 3 core and had an ancient controller mounted and plugged into a socket directly beneath the boiler which has now been moved to allow condensate line and to conform to regs.

have sent image of reg card to email address specified in that post. I didn't realise there was a separate gas safe area.

In the meantime, Am I going mad are are these MIs particularly unhelpful ?

Nowhere does it tell you to wire the pump to the PCB although this is standard practice now.
Nowhere does it say that the RT terminal block is a switched live so does pump use switched or permanent feed ?
The bridged connection on the board says 24V but suggests taking the bridge out, What does the bridge actually do ?
Pump overrun is not mentioned at all anywhere.

sorry cant tell you anything on an open forum can tell you one thing dont put 230-240v through the 24v side

Basic stuff really,so seems strange there is a problem wiring this unit up between you if really are in the trade...that no not..and hope not..

Drip Dry,
Im a novice albeit a qualified one. I qualified for the first time as gas safe in May, I have 10 years domestic plumbing experience previous to that but in heating systems I've only changed individual faulty components on Y plan systems using the standard Honeywell diagram. This is the first time I've fitted a new boiler into a Y plan system. and the first time I've needed to rewire one so it may be basic to you but its not to me, I only agreed to do it as there was a sparks on site to take care of the electrical connections (because Im not confident or competent in the wiring side) whom it turns out doesn't know how to do it. I am going to go on a Honeywell course and learn the (basics) of the wiring as this is of pressing need to me , there is no issue with my gas/plumbing work on this job as I have commissioned the product in test mode according to the MIs, anyhow Im not allowed to discuss it here am I.

may i ask how the boiler has been commissioned and gas rated if its not wired up ?

pump wired to terminals NLE on pump block on PCB, Mains block NLE wired to fused spur with heatproof flex, CPA and gas rate done on test mode 100 and 1 respectively. once done I disconnected it.

Maybe you need an electrician who specialises in heating systems. A lot of electricians are clueless with heating...

This is a great example of incapable folk carrying out work badly and trying to hide behind a bit of paper they have picked up..you can not reg boiler as fitted correctly..as it is not...take a step back and look what you have left behind you,a cowboy would have a shudder..you maybe able to fit a boiler safely onto an existing system but not a new one...sorry rant over but you are doing the trade no favours...

You folk suffer from combitus...
Used to sticking combi's one the wall with a slight scratch of the head working out were the room stat goes
....no idea about other installations

I haven't registered the installation, neither will I until the installation is correct ! I have also not left it live. If I have to pay a competent electrician then I shall do. I'm not hiding behind anything. Thanks for your help.

Hello all, I'm would like to extend an existing outside tap to another point in the garden. I'm about to pour a concrete patio and was hoping to run the water line underneath. There are existing drain (and who knows what) pipes running along the same wall so I'm nervous about digging too far...

We run a community village hall and have a large kitchen provided for the use of hirers. This includes a Lincat SLR9 gas cooker which I believe is a 23.8Kw appliance with all six burners and oven on max. This was installed some 10 years ago and has passed all subsequent Gas Safety inspections as...

Hi, Can anyone advise as to why the cold water to my bathroom keeps airlocking? This originally happened about 12 months ago and has happened 3-4 times since. It’s an upstairs bathroom, fed from a tank in the attic. The tank is about 8 Meters away and feeds a bath, sink and toilet. The tank...
