I bought a multimeter online from Maplin. It works fine but when it comes to boiler fault finding I sometimes find it hard to push the testing points down the PCB connections as they are quite fat, especially on some of the newer boards which have really thin wires.

Can anyone recommend a brand they use which has thin testing points? Ideally small enough to fit in my tool bag too!

Thanks

you can buy thinner longer un insulated leads from maplins or online but be careful with them - in the past I have used a knife to remove some of the plastic on the probes to give better ends

Thanks, does anyone know a brand other than fluke? The leads set alone cost £85! Is there a cheaper brand on the market that are reasonably good?

Thanks

As advised by tb and awheating I got the ryobi Also, good kit.

I am also after a reasonably decent/priced multimeter, is the ryobi mentioned the 'RP4020'?

That's the one mate.

Got a decent set of test leads from Maplin.

No point on getting a fancy all bells and whistles multimeter with masses of functions when all you need to test is AC, DC voltages, motor capacitors and resistances.

I've got a fluke 116 too, it is slightly more expensive but to me was worth it
