I've just replaced a mono block kitchen mixer tap for a customer that said his old Tap intermittently released a bust of water through spout, I advised him to buy a new replacement tap as I believed the cartridge maybe on the way out.
I then installed a identical looking tap that he'd had bought and delivered from Victoria plum and a day later he calls to say that the newly installed Mixer tap is doing the same thing?...
Would I be right in thinking that this is being coursed by a mains pressure spike and a 15mm pressure reducing valve fitted to pipe under sink would solve or is it the quality of tap thats is the issue?

most sink mixer taps will intermittently pass about an egg cup full of water sometime after they have been used but not a burst as such,it must be gravity/syphoning etc it just happens, maybe another member can enlighten me,I never touch them after making the same mistake as you years ago, can't see that fitting a pressure reducing valve will do anything except cost you more money and an unhappy customer.
