Hi all, I am changing my career at 24 and going from teaching personal training courses to become a gas engineer. Starting L2 plumbing NVQ in January - exciting times. 1 step back for 2 steps forward. Will be tough going from earning to not at all but eager to take on the challenge.

Hi Gwion

Welcome to the forums, good luck on your change of direction and course, hopefully you will find forums helpful and informative

Thanks all. I am doing a course with Cardiff and Vale College at Trowbridge campus. It's called 'Pathways to Apprenticeship' and is funded by the Welsh assembly - if you are under 25. I applied to start the Heating and Vent in Sep 2012 but they said I wouldn’t get funding next year as I'd be 25 and would have to start at Level 1. So they are starting me on the current course in January. I’m about 3 months behind but reading into the books to catch up.

I've also just realised that I am doing the technical certificate at college, not NVQ. This has become clear to me upon reading my books. The course does, however, include work placement for 6 weeks with the aim of an offer of an apprenticeship next year. We'll see, fingers crossed!

Thanks all! On the course now and enjoying it a lot. Very steep learning curve, made the right choice, thats for sure :)
